Product Materials and Safety Information

At BFB Brass^®, the quality and safety of our products is central to our mission. The BFB Natural Trumpet™ and plastic mouthpieces—used across the Mutec™ and BFB Brass^® product lines—are manufactured in the United States using durable, sterilizable resins appropriate for intermittent oral contact.

The BFB Natural Trumpet™ and Mutec™/BFB Brass^® plastic mouthpieces are made in the USA from high-quality engineering resins, including:

• ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)

• Nylon (Polyamide)

• Polycarbonate

These materials are commonly used in a wide range of consumer products that involve mouth contact, such as recorders, protective mouthguards, hydration system components, and medical devices.

The resins used in BFB Natural Trumpet™ and Mutec™/BFB Brass^® plastic mouthpieces:

• Are sterilizable

• Offer high durability and resistance to impact

• Provide a smooth, comfortable playing surface

• Maintain dimensional stability and acoustic consistency

The resins used in the BFB Natural Trumpet™ and Mutec™/BFB Brass^® plastic mouthpieces contain no intentionally added:

• Lead

• Cadmium

• Mercury

• Hexavalent chromium

• Phthalates restricted under California Proposition 65

These substances are not used in the formulation of the ABS, Nylon, or Polycarbonate resins selected for our products.

California Proposition 65 (“The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986”) requires businesses to provide warnings if a product exposes individuals to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Because trace amounts of certain chemicals may be present in plastics or may be introduced during manufacturing, and because we have not yet conducted laboratory testing to confirm compliance with Proposition 65 safe-harbor exposure levels, customers in California should be aware of the following:

This statement does not indicate that the product contains harmful levels of any chemical—it simply acknowledges the potential for trace-level contaminants and the absence of formal testing at this time.

As BFB Brass® transitions all plastic mouthpieces to fully injection-molded production, we anticipate being able to provide:

• More detailed material specifications

• Updated Proposition 65 information

• Additional safety assurances

The BFB Natural Trumpet™ and Mutec™/BFB Brass^® plastic mouthpieces are designed for easy cleaning and sterilization.

Recommended procedures:

• Wash regularly with warm water and mild soap using a mouthpiece brush

• For deeper sterilization, use a diluted antiseptic/mouthpiece disinfectant

• Avoid harsh solvents or abrasive cleaners

• Do not expose mouthpieces to prolonged high heat (e.g., boiling, dishwasher heating cycles)

Always ensure the mouthpiece is fully dry before storage.
